Unreal Engine 5 is to blame: CD Projekt Red representative explained why Phantom Liberty will be the only major addition for Cyberpunk 2077
CD Projekt Red has summarised the first half of 2023 and in a conversation with investors, a representative of the company revealed an interesting detail about Cyberpunk 2077.
Here's What We Know
Vice President of Business Development at CD Projekt Red Michał Nowakowski explained why, contrary to pre-release promises, Phantom Liberty will be the only major expansion for Cyberpunk 2077.
He said that the main reason is the studio's transition to the Unreal Engine 5 engine, which will be used to create all future games of the Polish company. And since Cyberpunk 2077 and, accordingly, all potential add-ons would be created on its own engine REDengine, it would bring chaos to the workflow and entail unjustified financial costs.
Michal Nowakowski was tactfully silent, but undoubtedly and unsuccessful release of Cyberpunk 2077 fundamentally changed the developers' plans, because instead of creating the promised add-ons, CD Projekt Red invested almost three years financially and physically into improving the game.
When We Can Expect It
Phantom Liberty will release on 26 September on MS, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.
