Sam Lake, Creative Director of Remedy, said that the studio has always felt the need to make its games longer.

Here's What We Know

In October, Remedy will release the long-awaited Alan Wake 2, and information about the game is becoming more and more available every day, with details shared by the game's authors. Sam Lake visited the Kinda Funny podcast to tell a little more about the timing of Alan Wake 2 and other games by the Finnish studio.

Lake noted that traditionally, Remedy games have been quite short, about 10 hours.

"And we have always internally felt that we need to find ways to do longer games, because it's just like, people are looking at it from a value of money perspective as well - to get enough".

He added that the studio's longest game to date is Control. It will take about 15 hours to complete it. But Alan Wake 2 will be even longer, taking over 20 hours to complete. Although Lake himself sometimes finds it difficult to set aside a few hours for longer games. Sam understands that sometimes it can even be scary to start playing a game that is very long, but it is both a struggle to find the time and a desire to see the game's story to the end.

The podcast also discussed some aspects of Alan Wake 2 gameplay. For example, in the first part, there were hundreds of collectible thermoses scattered around that didn't matter much. The studio understood this. Now in Alan Wake 2, thermoses are valuable items. They allow you to save the game in the break rooms. The system is similar to the typewriters in the Resident Evil series.

In conclusion, it is important to mention that the sequel may seem slower than the first part, because now we are waiting for survival-horror, not an adventure action.

When We Can Expect It

Alan Wake 2 is scheduled for release on October 27 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
