Media: Embracer Group is shutting down Free Radical Design, the studio behind the once-popular TimeSplitters shooter series
Perhaps, among the largest game companies, the Swedish holding Embracer Group is the leader in terms of the number of laid-off employees and closed studios.
Over the last few years, the Swedes have bought several hundred, both small and quite large studios. And now they are trying to optimise costs by laying off developers.
The matter has come to a paradoxical situation.
Here's What We Know
Portal VGC reported that Embracer Group may close the British studio Free Radical Design - the author of the once popular shooter series TimeSplitters.
What is surprising is that in 2021, it was thanks to Embracer Group and its subsidiary publisher Deep Silver studio Free Radical Design was able to reassemble the team and start working on a new part of TimeSplitters. It's only been two years since the "resurrection", and Embracer Group may close the company again - employees have already been warned about it.
The decision to close the studio has not yet been publicly confirmed by Embracer Group, but many Free Radical Design developers have reported that they are once again on the lookout for work.
As a reminder, Embracer Group recently closed Volition Studios and made layoffs at Crystal Dynamics, Beamdog, Gearbox Publishing and Cryptic Studios.
