In the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, the developers plan to expand the impact of choosing the protagonist's backstory and add more Life Paths
During the advertising campaign of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt RED studio emphasised to the public that the game will have several variants of the main character's backstory, which will significantly affect the plot.
In fact, there were only three "life paths" in the game, depending on which the prologue, lasting 40 minutes, was changed and certain lines in some dialogues were added. Otherwise, the choice of backstory had almost no effect on the game.
In Cyberpunk 2077 it's too late to add backstory options, but in the next game the developers plan to fix this oversight.
Here's What We Know
On the AnsweRED show, narrative director Philipp Weber and quest designer Błażej Augustynek revealed that they want to give players more "life paths" to choose from in the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel. In addition, they mentioned that it would be great to expand their influence on the course of the game's story, so that the difference is not reduced to a few minor lines.
Of course, these are only the developers' plans and it will take many years to realise them, as the development of Project Orion hasn't even fully started yet, but the gamemakers' thoughts are moving in the right direction.
