For most gamers, the release of the "magical shooter" Immortals of Aveum passed unnoticed.

The debut game of the young studio Ascendant was released in August 2023, received rather low ratings and did not attract the attention of the public.

It is known that the publisher Electronic Arts, which financially supported the project, considers it a failure. It is difficult to disagree with this opinion, but the amount of failure is impressive.

Here's What We Know

An anonymous former Ascendant employee stated in an interview with IGN that "investing $125 million was a terrible idea by Electronic Arts." He explained that the company spent $85 million to develop the game and $40 million on marketing and distribution.

The developer also added that Immortals of Aveum was created by a team with a lot of young game designers, moreover, they had to work with the new Unreal Engine 5 technology and unexplored options supported by the engine.

But the main reason for the failure, according to an unnamed source, was the excessive scale of Immortals of Aveum - inexperienced developers could not cope with the implementation of all the ideas, which, however, were also too much.

As a result - the game failed, $125 million was wasted, and 50% of the team was fired at the end of the work.
