Epic Games server hacking story turned out to be a fake: Mogilevich group tried to trick real hackers

A few days ago, the hacker group Mogilevich announced that it had managed to hack into Epic Games' servers and take possession of 189 GB of confidential information.

The attackers gave a deadline to potential buyers of the information until the 4th of March, after which they threatened to leak it to the public.

The 4th of March came and the situation was continued.

Immediately after Mogilevich's statement, the management of Epic Games said that the company did not observe the hacking of the system and did not receive evidence of hackers penetrating its servers.

Today it became known that the attackers could not give any evidence, because the fact of hacking was not there. As it turned out, the hackers of the Mogilevich group are not hackers, but ordinary fraudsters.

They planned to deceive real cybercriminals and sell them a supposedly valid programme that allows them to hack into the servers of Epic Games-level companies.

Well, for the American developer potentially unpleasant situation was resolved in the most favourable way.
