The Persona series has remained one of the most popular games of the JRPG genre for almost 30 years.

The first game in the series, Revelations: Persona, was released in 1996 and was a spin-off of another popular Atlus franchise, Megami Tensei. The game was warmly received by the public and it laid the foundation for the popular franchise.

Persona has recently experienced a surge in popularity that began with the release of the fifth instalment in 2016, and last month saw the release of the Persona 3 remake, which received the highest praise from critics and gamers.

Here's What We Know

Developers from Atlus Studios shared the happy news that Persona's total sales have surpassed 22.6 million copies, both digital and physical.

It may seem that for such a period of time 22 million is not so much, but it is necessary to take into account the niche nature of the game, especially outside of Japan.

To mark the occasion, the studio has released a new Persona 3 Reload trailer, which shows off some striking scenes from the revamped game.
