Alone in the Dark (2024), another reboot and reimagining of the iconic franchise that borrows from the 1990s, will be released tomorrow (20 March).

Numerous trailers gave the impression that the game will be not only a great remake, but also a quality project for fans of mystical horror and thrillers, but critics were of a different opinion.

Here's What We Know

Experts from leading gaming publications got acquainted with Alone in the Dark (2024) and stated that the game from THQ Nordic and Pieces Interactive did not live up to all expectations.

The reviewers noted that the game has an interesting story, which not only retells the events of the original game, but also competently complements them. However, Alone in the Dark (2024) is inferior to other horror games, especially to such modern parts (and remakes) as Resident Evil and Alan Wake 2.

The new horror has monotonous gameplay, tedious combat system, not the best technical condition and strange ending, which leaves a lack of clarity and does not fully reveal the main intrigue of the game.

In the end, Alone in the Dark (2024) received the following scores:

  • 65 points - Metacritic, PC version;
  • 64 points - Metacritic, PlayStation 5 version;
  • 65 points - Metacritic, Xbox Series version;
  • 62 points - Opencritic, with 39% of recommendations.

Perhaps the success of Alone in the Dark (2024) was hindered by its overly detailed adherence to the original and the developers' reluctance to drastically change the concept of a 30-year-old game that has obviously become outdated in the intervening time.

There is a possibility that gamers will be more favourable to Alone in the Dark (2024), as the game can hardly be called a failure.
