In early March, Funcom held a presentation of Dune: Awakening, a multiplayer survival simulator based on the novels of Frank Herbert.

During the event, the game's designers announced that the game would not have some of the features players wanted to see, such as not being able to ride the giant Sandworm.

This news upset players, but it turned out that the announcement was not entirely correct.

What is already known

At the GDC conference, developers Funcom answered a number of questions from the press, including those about Sandworms.

It turns out that Dune: Awakening will feature the ability to ride Worms, but the option will not appear in the game immediately, but with the release of several patches.

The game's designers explained that the game was originally intended to be released before the Dune 2 film, so Legendary Pictures asked the developers to leave out some of the nuances of Frank Herbert's universe so as not to spoil it. As it happened, however, production of Dune: Awakening was delayed, the film was released and the ability to climb bugs in an early version of the game was no longer possible.

A similar situation will happen with a number of House Fremen features.

Well, we will have to wait for patches.

The project is being developed on Unreal Engine 5.2 with financial support from Tencent Corporation. A release date for Dune: Awakening has not yet been announced.
