"For us, it's a passed phase" - the head of Larian Studios explained why his company will not release add-ons or a sequel to Baldur's Gate III
After the huge success of the Baldur's Gate III RPG, many gamers expected Larian Studios to do the same as most developers: release a few paid expansions and take on the continuation of the series.
The head of Larian Studios Swen Vincke spoke to journalists during the GDC conference, where he explained why it won't happen.
Here's What We Know
Swen Vincke officially announced that Baldur's Gate III will not be getting DLC or a sequel. According to his belief, the game is a self-sufficient work, in which there is no understatement and it does not need additional storylines or expansion of the already presented stories.
The head of Larian noted that for his studio Baldurʼs Gate 3 and the Dungeons & Dragons universe are a passed stage. The studio aims to do something new and innovative and does not plan to tread on the same ground.
Sven Vincke emphasised that all Baldurʼs Gate 3 materials belong to Wizards of the Coast, the D&D rights holder, and if it wants to continue the franchise, it will be handled by other developers.
Please note! The developers will continue to release free updates for Baldurʼs Gate 3 until the state of the game is as close to perfect as possible.
