Starting September 6, prices for annual PlayStation Plus subscriptions will increase by up to 35%
Sony has announced plans to increase the cost of annual PlayStation Plus subscriptions by 35% starting from September 6.
Here's What We Know
The subscription price will increase by at least 33% for users in the US, 20% in Europe, and 19% in the UK.
Currently, the cost of an annual subscription to PlayStation Plus Essential is $59.99 / £49.99 / €59.99. Extra costs $99.99 / £83.99 / €99.99, and Premium costs $119.99 / £99.99 / €119.99, respectively.
From September, the situation will be as follows:
PlayStation Plus Essential for a year will cost $79.99 / £59.99 / €71.99, and PlayStation Plus Premium for a year will cost $159.99 / £119.99 / €151.99. At the same time, the annual subscription will remain cheaper compared to the cost of purchasing a one-month or three-month subscription for 12 months, Sony said on Wednesday.
Current subscribers with annual subscriptions will not see a price increase until their next renewal date, which is not until 6 November.
According to Adam Michel, Director of Content Acquisition and Operations at Sony Interactive Entertainment, the price increase will help ensure high quality games and additional benefits for PlayStation Plus subscribers. However, no specific details on the new benefits were provided.
