Same power in a smaller package: Sony has unveiled a new version of its PlayStation 5 console with a removable disc drive and 1TB of on-board memory
What insiders have long reported has been confirmed: Sony has unveiled a new version of its PlayStation 5 game console.
Here's What We Know
It will be a 30% smaller console with 1TB of internal memory, and its weight will be 18% and 24% less than similar versions of the PS5 (with and without a disc drive). Its performance will not be inferior to the previous model.
Buyers will be offered two models of PS5: with built-in disc drive for $500 and without disc drive for $450.
As reported by insiders, there will be a detachable Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive for the digital console for $80, which will be sold separately.
In the U.S., sales of the updated PlayStation 5 will start in November, and later the console will start selling in other regions. Moreover, once the stock of the original model consoles is sold out, it will be the lightweight model of PlayStation 5 that will be the main and only one on the market.
