Insider: Naughty Dog has cancelled development of a multiplayer project based on The Last of Us universe, and will use the materials created in the full-fledged third part of the series
A few weeks ago it became known about the wave of layoffs in Naughty Dog studio, and also about the fact that the famous studio froze the development of multiplayer project on The Last of Us universe.
This game has been talked about for several years, but so far the developers have not shown almost any materials, which only confirms the problems in the creation of the game.
Here's What We Know
The Tipster insider reported that Naughty Dog cancelled The Last of Us Online (the name is conditional). According to his information, the American developers will try to integrate the best developments of this project into a full-fledged third part of The Last of Us.
The Tipster noted that the main factor in the cancellation of the online game was the unwillingness of the studio's management to risk the impeccable reputation, which this year has been somewhat damaged by the failed release of the PC-version of The Last of Us.
Indeed, Naughty Dog's decision to go online was initially extremely strange, as the studio is famous as a developer of first-class single-player games and has never worked on multiplayer projects. So perhaps the cancellation of The Last of Us Online might be the right decision.
However, the developers have yet to confirm the cancellation.
