First details of the weekly UK game sales chart: physical sales of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III are 25% lower than Modern Warfare II
GamesIndustry.biz's Christopher Dring has shared the first details of the weekly UK games sales chart. The full statistics should be available by Tuesday, but we already know how Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III performed.
Here's What We Know
72% of sales came from PS5, 20% from Xbox, and 8% from PS4. The statistics also included sold bundles with consoles and the game, as the digital code in the box counts as a sold physical copy of the game.
Although the sales of physical copies of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III are 25% lower than those of Modern Warfare II, which was released in 2022, the new game in the series may still recover thanks to digital copies, as they are now much more popular than discs. However, this still means that the new instalment is much less attention-grabbing when compared to other Modern Warfare relaunch titles.
Flashback
The full release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III took place on 10 November. Critics and players disliked the story campaign the most, calling it one of the worst in the history of the series. This is even evidenced by the scores on OpenCritic, where the game received only 56 points out of 100 from critics. But this failure could be caused by the fact that very little time was allocated for development. According to Jason Schreier, Modern Warfare III was developed in just 16 months, which is the shortest Call of Duty development time in recent years.
Where To Play
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is available on PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox Series, and Xbox One.
