After information about the native version of The Last of Us Part II for PlayStation 5 appeared in the PSN database, Naughty Dog officially announced the remaster.

Here's What We Know

The remaster will feature a new mode called No Return. This is an analogue of roguelike, where you play as one of the characters and have to defeat enemies in waves. Each of the characters has its own characteristics that suit different styles of play.

If you really liked playing the guitar in the second part, the new version will give you the opportunity to do it separately and spend as much time as you want.

The authors have also decided to add cut-scenes that you can freely explore and listen to the developers' comments about the game's development.

As you progress through the story, you'll also have access to commentary from Neil Druckmann, Halley Gross, and actors Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, and Laura Bailey. They came together to talk about the story and its characters.

Also, the Remastered version will have all the DualSense features, new accounts for Ellie and Abby, a speed run mode that was unlocked in The Last of Us Part I, and an improved photo mode that was also in Part I.

Now let's talk about the graphical improvements. The Last of Us Part II Remastered will feature improved graphics, including the ability to play the game in 4K resolution in Fidelity mode (30fps) or in 1440p (upscaled to 4K) in Performance mode (60fps). If you have a VRR-enabled TV, you will have access to the Unlocked Framerate mode. Also, the remaster has increased texture resolution, improved detail, animation, shadows, and more.

Price & When We Can Expect It

Pre-orders will be available from 5 December for both the standard edition and The Last of Us Part II Remastered W.L.F. Edition. The latter includes a SteelBook, four badges, a W.F.F. patch, and 47 Society of Champions cards that players found throughout the game. However, its price is still unknown.

And there's good news for owners of The Last of Us Part II on PlayStation 4. You can upgrade to the digital version of The Last of Us Part II Remastered for $10. You will also be able to transfer your saves from the original game to Part II Remastered. The full release of The Last of Us Part II Remastered is scheduled for 19 January 2024.
