Former Rockstar Games employee explains why GTA VI will be released on PC later than on consoles
Former employee of Rockstar Games Mike York continues to tell his subscribers about the nuances of the development of GTA VI.
Previously, the game designer analysed the first trailer of the new part of the criminal action and explained why most of the shown frames reflect the real quality of the game's graphics.
Now he touched upon the reasons why GTA VI will be released first only on consoles.
Here's What We Know
Overall, he gave an extensive and comprehensive answer that can be boiled down to two main points:
1. Rockstar Games and Take-Two believe that the most popular and in demand game platform remains PlayStation, and it is the version for the Japanese console is always the main focus of the studio. According to York, this situation was with GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2 and earlier games. And the Xbox versions are made in parallel with the PlayStation versions, because they are identical in most technological aspects.
2. PC-version requires much more time and resources from developers, because the consoles of all users are the same, and computers use a huge number of components from different manufacturers and belong to different series and generations. Because of this, optimising the PC version is considered a complex and time-consuming process, which Rockstar Games prefers to do after the release of the game on consoles.
In addition, the developers, realising the capabilities of powerful PCs, try to add more visual effects to the game, increase the resolution, and sometimes even implement new options, which also delays the development.
When We Can Expect It
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release in 2025 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.
