A global wave of layoffs in the gaming industry has affected Sony Interactive Entertainment.

The Japanese company announced the dismissal of 900 PlayStation employees - that's about 8% of the entire team.

Here's What We Know

The head of PlayStation Jim Ryan, who, remember, from 1 April 2024 will leave his post, explained that the company was hard given the decision to dismiss so many people, but according to him - it is necessary to maintain flexibility and further development of the company.

He emphasised that the cuts are not an indication that Sony has big problems. He said that the gaming industry has changed a lot and Sony needs to take unpopular measures to maintain its leading position in the market.

Thelayoffs will affect studios including Guerrilla Games (Horizon series), Insomniac Games (Marvel's Spider-Man), Naughty Dog (The Last of Us) and Firesprite (VR game Horizon Call of the Mountain), among others.

PlayStation London Studios will close completely.
