The Ukrainian Armed Forces will soon receive a batch of Rb 99 (aka AMRAAM) air-to-air missiles.

Here's What We Know

The information was shared by the Swedish government. First, the missiles will be sold to the United States of America. Those, in turn, will send them to Ukraine. The US has launched a programme to buy back older versions of AMRAAM missiles on the condition that the same countries buy newer missiles of this class.

What number of Rb 99 missiles Ukraine will receive is still unknown. By the way, besides missiles, Sweden is also going to transfer other weapons to the AFU.

Flashback

Rb 99 is a Swedish version of the all-weather American missile AMRAAM (Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile). It is capable of hitting air targets out of visual range. This missile was developed by Hughes Aircraft Company in 1981. AMRAAMs are in service with the US, UK, Germany and other NATO member states. Usually AMRAAMs are used with F-15, F-16, F/A-18 and F-22 fighters, but the AFU will launch them with NASAMS SAMs.
