The US launched a Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile to demonstrate the readiness of nuclear forces

The United States has tested an intercontinental ballistic missile Minuteman III. This was reported by the US Air Force Global Strike Command.

Here's What We Know

The intercontinental ballistic missile, which has a range of approximately 13,000 kilometres, was launched from the US Space Force's Vandenberg base. The test began at 04:26 (EDT) or 01:26 (PDT) on September 6.

A short press release from the US Air Force's Global Strike Command said the purpose of the launch was to test the safety, effectiveness and readiness of the system. The previous day, US Defence Department spokesman Pat Ryder said the Minuteman III launch was related to demonstrating the readiness of the US nuclear forces and nuclear deterrent.

The US Air Force's Global Strike Command did not disclose details of the test. The previous launch of Minuteman III took place in the spring of 2023. Then the warhead flew almost 6,800 kilometres.
