Ukrainian Armed Forces receive modernised Igla surface-to-air missile systems with a launch range of up to 5 km
The Ukrainian Armed Forces have acquired improved Igla man-portable air defence systems. The modernization programme was paid for by the "Come Back Alive" fund for competent assistance to the army.
Here's What We Know
The portable anti-aircraft missile systems were transferred to the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which provide protection of infrastructure facilities. The Foundation modernised six launchers for more than UAH 6.1 million ($165,000). They have been tested and received more modern components.
"Igla" is designed to intercept low-flying aerial threats. The portable surface-to-air missile system can shoot down cruise missiles, planes, helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles at a range of up to 5,000 metres. The altitude range is from 10 to 3,500 metres.
The complex uses anti-aircraft guided missiles that can reach speeds of up to 570 metres per second. The missile weighing more than 10kg is equipped with a 1.3kg fragmentation warhead and has an optical dual-spectral homing head.
