Israel has requested missile interceptors for the Iron Dome air defence system and small diameter bombs from the US
Last Saturday, Hamas terrorists attacked Israel. Since then, the country has been subjected to massive daily bombardment with short-range rockets. Because of this, the authorities have requested interceptors from the US for the Iron Dome air defence system.
Here's What We Know
Thousands of rockets have been fired at Israel in three days. Iron Dome is able to effectively deal with so many simultaneously launched air threats, but it is unclear how long it can operate in this mode. For this reason, Israel wants the US to help replenish the interceptors for the air defence system.
The request for anti-missile missiles to the Iron Dome is a precautionary measure in case of future missile attacks on the country, not a sign of depleted stockpiles. Israel also wants small-diameter bombs and increased intelligence-sharing cooperation with the United States amid military activity near the border with Lebanon.
The White House has already discussed increased support for Israel. At the moment, it is about arms deliveries under previous contracts. Now Israel is conducting massive airstrikes on the territory of the Gaza Strip. A ground operation is expected to begin in the near future.
