Ukraine could receive about 20 ATACMS ballistic missiles, each with 950 submunitions and a range of 165 km
The second day has passed since Ukraine first used ATACMS. Details about the ballistic missiles continue to emerge.
Here's What We Know
The day before, the Associated Press reported that the US transferred no more than a dozen tactical ballistic missiles for HIMARS to Ukraine. But according to The New York Time, Ukraine could have received about 20 ATACMS.
The armed forces use M39 missiles with 950 M74 sub-missiles. The launch range is 165 kilometres. The agreement on deliveries was reached in late summer, when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited the US. As expected. the deliveries were classified.
The New York Time writes that following the ATACMS, Ukraine may receive German long-range cruise missiles Taurus. What is interesting is that the German authorities have previously made counter-versive statements on this matter.
For example, in early September, Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said that in case of ATACMS deliveries, Germany would not be obliged to transfer Taurus. Two weeks later, it was reported that Ukraine may receive cruise missiles after ballistic missiles, as Berlin wants to act in unison with Washington.
