Spain has ordered 16 SILAM launchers based on Israel's PULS missile system, which can use ballistic missiles with a range of up to 300 kilometres
Spain has launched the SILAM programme to arm the defence forces with new missile systems. The Ministry of Defence accidentally published a classified contract that says the launchers have been ordered.
Here's What We Know
Spain used Teruel multiple rocket launchers for several decades. After the decommissioning, the Iberian Peninsula country launched the SILAM programme to find a replacement. In the end, the decision was made to opt for the Israeli PULS missile system.
The classified contract was in the public domain for several hours, after which the Spanish Ministry of Defence removed it. The document stated that Spain was buying 16 launchers.
SILAM or Sistema de Lanzacohetes de Alta Movilidad involves the use of an Iveco 8x8 chassis. The launcher, which consists of two containers, can use between two and 10 missiles depending on the type.
The most powerful variant is the Predator Hawk. It is a short-range tactical ballistic missile. It has a diameter of 370 mm and can hit targets within a radius of 300 kilometres. The SILAM / PULS is also capable of hitting missiles at a range of 35-150 kilometres.
