Boeing will increase production of homing heads for Patriot Advanced Capability 3 missile interceptors by more than 30 per cent
Boeing recently delivered the 5,000th homing head for the Patriot Advanced Capability 3 (PAC-3). Now the company has announced a plant expansion and increased production.
Here's What We Know
Boeing said the Huntsville facility will be expanded by 35,000 square feet (3,250 square metres). The plant expansion will increase production of homing heads for the PAC-3 by more than 30 per cent. Commissioning is scheduled for early 2027.
Many countries have a need for MIM-104 Patriot missile defence systems. It is this growing need that has led Boeing to ramp up production of guidance heads for anti-missile missiles.
Since 2010, Boeing has invested more than $100 million to improve its Huntsville manufacturing facilities to support the PAC-3 programme. The company has been a manufacturer of PAC-3 homing heads for more than 20 years. Two years ago, it signed contracts worth more than $2bn to produce and develop the next-generation solution.
