Sweden will arm Visby-class corvettes with British CAMM anti-aircraft missiles with a range of 25 km

The Royal Swedish Navy wants Visby-class ships to be able to provide their own defence with CAMM (Common Anti-Air Modular Missile) missiles. An agreement to this effect has been signed between the Ministry of Defence and MBDA UK.

Here's What We Know

Sweden is actively strengthening the capabilities of its fleet. The Visby class corvettes do not currently have any air defence system, which would make them vulnerable in the event of actual combat operations.

The Royal Swedish Navy has five ships in service. The first corvette will leave to undergo modernisation in 2025. The process will take two years. All five members of the Visby class are expected to be armed with CAMM missiles by 2030.

The work will take place at the shipyard of the Swedish company Saab with the involvement of British specialists. As part of the modernisation, the Visby class ships will receive a vertical launch system to accommodate the basic version of CAMM, aka Sea Ceptor. The launch range is 25 kilometres.
