Aegis Ashore is designed primarily to provide defence against ballistic missiles. The complex includes launchers Mk 41, which can use missile interceptors SM-3 and SM-6.
The Aegis Ashore missile defence system includes the AN/SPY-1D(V) radar. The ground-based configuration of the radar is as capable as the version used on US Navy destroyers.
Aegis Ashore in Poland will become a fully integrated element of the US missile defence system. The complex will be ready to operate under NATO command. The official handover is scheduled for spring-summer 2024.
