Germany will spend $3.42bn to buy 500 interceptors for Patriot and 120 IRIS-T missiles for Eurofighter Typhoon
Germany will invest almost $3.5bn to buy missile interceptors for MIM-104 Patriot and IRIS-T missiles. The acquisition was approved by the Budget Committee of the parliaments.
Here's What We Know
For almost two years, Germany has transferred several IRIS-T SLS / SLM air defence systems, MIM-104 Patriot launchers and interceptors to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Now the authorities want to replenish the stockpile.
German air defence will receive 500 missile interceptors for the MIM-104 Patriot. The type is not specified and the cost will be $3.3bn. Deliveries will start in 2027 and last until 2033. Another $120 million will be spent to acquire 120 IRIS-T missiles for air-to-air operations. Deliveries will be completed by 2026.
In addition, Germany intends to develop a new version of the Meteor air-to-air missile. The carrier will be the fourth-generation Eurofighter Typhoon fighter. Also Germany wants to develop a new generation of anti-aircraft self-propelled launcher to replace the Gepard.
