At today's Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event, along with Galaxy Flip 4, another foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold 4, debuted. As with the previous novelty, it retained the design of its predecessor, but received some "internal" changes.

What are the differences?

The smartphone is made in the form factor of a book with a large internal screen, which folds inside, and a second external display. At first glance, it looks very similar to last year's model, although there are design differences: a thinner hinge, narrower frames, less weight, and a wider display, which should improve one-handed use when folded.

However, the most significant innovation was the use of the top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, which should add performance gains and improve battery life. In addition, the Samsung Galaxy Fold 4 offers better video and photo capabilities with its new 50 MP (f/1.8) main camera and telephoto lens with 3x optical and 30x digital zoom. Samsung has also built in some new camera features to help users make the most of the foldable form factor.

The rest of the specs remain the same: a 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with 48 to 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate on the outside, a 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X flexible panel with 1 to 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate, 4 MP sub-screen camera, 10 MP front-facing camera, 4,400 mAh battery, lateral fingerprint scanner and IPX8 water protection. The smartphone supports the S Pen stylus, but you will have to buy it separately.

Thanks to Samsung's partnership with Google and Microsoft, Google apps including Chrome and Gmail now support drag-and-drop, allowing users to quickly copy and paste links, photos and more from one app to another. The full Microsoft Office suite and Outlook take advantage of the foldable display, providing more information on the screen and faster ways to interact with content.

Pricing

The Samsung Galaxy Fold 4 starts at $1800 for the 12/256GB version. Configurations with 12/512GB and 12GB/1TB are also available. There are colors to choose from: gray-green, phantom black and beige. In addition, Samsung will offer an additional Burgundy color range exclusively through its online store.

Sales will start on August 26, but pre-orders are already available starting today.
