There's nothing manufacturers can do to show off the photography capabilities of their smartphones. For example, Samsung recently sent the Galaxy S24 Ultra into the stratosphere.

Details

Samsung used several flagship smartphones that went to conquer space in baskets suspended from hydrogen-filled balloons. They all took photos at intervals and ended up capturing more than 150 images of Los Angeles, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon and the Sierra Nevada mountain range.

Smartphones rose to an altitude of more than 36 kilometres above the Earth's surface. Samsung clarifies that technically the stratosphere is not space, but from such a height the curvature of the Earth is already visible.

After that, hydrogen was released from the balloons, parachutes were deployed - and the smartphones returned home safely.
