While Samsung is thinking about who to put a 200 MP image sensor for, the Perseverance rover is already taking photos at 2.5 GP (2,500 MP).
Here's What We Know
The Curiosity drone's record didn't last even three years. In 2020, the rover was able to capture an image of Gale Crater at 1,800 MP resolution. Perseverance, however, captured a 2,500 MP panorama image of Mars from Jezero Crater.
The photo consists of more than 1,100 individual frames. They were taken with Mastcam-Z cameras, which are mounted on the head of the rover. It took the drone more than a week to get the big picture. It took photos from June 12 to 20.
Anyone can view the image in full resolution at NASA's website. The file size is 3.85 GB.
