Cassie, a robotic runner, was able to set the Guinness World Record for the 100 meters among bipedal robots.

Here's What We Know

9.58 seconds is how long it took Jamaican runner Usain Bolt to run the 100 meters in 2009. The robot from Agility Robotics took much longer. It was able to run the 100 meters in 24.73 seconds. But that was enough time to set a Guinness World Record for robotic bipedal devices.

Agility Robotics created its robot in 2017. It was developed at the University of Oregon. In 2021, Cassie was able to cover a distance of 5 km in less than 1 hour. The developers used machine learning algorithms to do this. With their help, the robot learned to run using unique biomechanics and knees that bend like an ostrich.
