The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has begun refueling the Space Launch System (SLS) lunar rocket.

Here's What We Know

The space agency began loading fuel into the tanks of the giant rocket at 11:52 p.m. (EET) on Nov. 15. The procedure is expected to take about six hours, ending about two hours before the launch window opens.

NASA has postponed the SLS launch several times this year. The last two postponements of the Artemis I mission were due to inclement weather. Storm Nicole hit Florida a few days ago, causing some damage to the rocket and spacecraft. Even earlier, the SLS and Orion went into a hangar because of Hurricane Ian.

Meteorologists say that the weather forecast now remains 80% favorable. The launch window will open at 02:04 (EDT) or 23:04 (PDT) on November 16 for two hours. You can watch the SLS rocket launch on YouTube. The broadcast has already begun. If successful, the rocket will send the Orion spacecraft on a 26-day voyage around the moon, which will end on Dec. 11, 2022, with a docking in the Pacific Ocean.
