NASA allows SpaceX to make a second landing on the moon with the Starship in 2027
A year and a half ago, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced that SpaceX's Starship would be used in the Artemis lunar program to land people on the moon. The Artemis III mission is scheduled for 2025, but it is already known that Starship will also participate in Artemis IV.
Here's What We Know
In early fall NASA began collecting applications for the landing modules that will be used in future manned lunar missions. In order not to depend completely on SpaceX, the company of Elon Musk was even prohibited to participate in the competition.
However, officials still found a way to attract SpaceX. They did it using an existing contract. NASA has officially confirmed that the Starship will be used in the Artemis IV mission, which is scheduled for 2027.
SpaceX has developed a spacecraft to go to Mars and the moon. It is now actively testing it in hopes of making its first test flight before the end of this year. Although the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has not yet approved the flight.
