The Orion spacecraft recently took a close-up photo of the Moon. Now the satellite, along with our planet, is in the lenses of the cameras.

Here's What We Know

Orion completes its journey in retrograde orbit around the moon, taking spectacular photos along the way. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has published a beautiful image that captures the Earth and the Moon.

Orion entered a far retrograde orbit around the moon on the night of November 25-26. It moved 54,000 km away from the satellite. The distance between the spacecraft and Earth was 432,210 km. It was at this point that the satellite took the photo you can see above.

432,210 km is a record distance between our planet and a spacecraft with people on board. The previous record was set in 1970 by the Apollo 13 spacecraft, which traveled 400,171 km.

You can see some more photos taken by Orion cameras below. Earlier the spacecraft recorded a spectacular video of the Earth rising "from the void".
