NASA will build a telescope that can peer into the Dark Ages of the Universe and see what happened before the first galaxies appeared
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) wants to study the Dark Ages of the Universe. The space agency will build a special telescope for this purpose.
Here's What We Know
The device will be called the Lunar Surface Electromagnetics Experiment-Night (LuSEE-Night). It will be developed with the support of the U.S. Department of Energy and will travel to the far side of the moon.
The mission of LuSEE-Night is to pick up radio signals from the ancient Universe. It will be equipped with four antennas, each three metres long, to do just that. The device will be able to operate in conditions of extreme temperature and high radiation exposure, according to the plan.
LuSEE-Night will give scientists a glimpse into the Dark Ages of our Universe. This is the period that began about 380,000 years after the Big Bang and lasted until the first stars and galaxies formed.
The launch of LuSEE-Night will take place in a few years. It will be part of the Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) initiative under the Artemis lunar programme.
