The SpaceX Starship will carry humans to the Moon as part of the Artemis III and Artemis IV missions. The fifth mission will involve a Blue Origin spacecraft.

Here's What We Know

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has chosen Jeff Bezos' company to build the craft that will take humans to the moon in the Artemis V mission. Blue Origin will work with Lockheed Martin on the spacecraft. The team also includes Boeing, Draper, Astrobotic and Honeybee Robotics.

The Orion capsule will carry four astronauts to the Gateway orbital station. There they will transfer to a spacecraft that will take them to the surface of the moon. It will land at the South Pole and the mission will last for a week.

Artemis V is scheduled for 2029, but it is highly likely to miss the deadline. NASA believes there will only be one landing by 2028. Humans will return to the moon as part of the Artemis III mission, which is still planned for 2025 but will probably be delayed by a few years. Funding for Artemis through 2028 will exceed $41bn.
