The American Civil Liberties Union said that the House of Representatives' bill that would ban TikTok is unconstitutional.
Here's What We Know
The House Committee on Energy and Commerce wants to vote on the proposal, believing that the social network threatens national security. However, the ACLU saw possible restrictions as an infringement on freedom of speech.
The proposed bill defines TikTok as an app controlled by foreign malicious actors, and sets a five-month ultimatum for ByteDance (the owners of TikTok). The law also gives the president the power to ban other foreign apps deemed to be a threat to national security.
