Sony says PlayStation VR 2 will have more than 20 launch games
Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that it is preparing more than 20 major games for the launch of the PlayStation VR2 virtual reality headset. This number includes both projects from internal studios and third-party developers, the corporation said during a recent business briefing.
“Right now, there is a considerable amount of money being spent on partnerships with independent and other third-party developers to secure a considerable pipeline of attractive VR content at the launch of PlayStation VR2,” said SIE president Jim Ryan.
The first announced PS VR2 game is Horizon Call of the Mountain from Guerrilla and Firesprite. Developed by Guerrilla Games in partnership with newly-acquired UK developer Firesprite, Call of the Mountain is described as an original game being built specifically for PS VR2.
The PlayStation VR2 will be Sony’s second VR headset to be released for the PlayStation platform, following on from the first launched back in 2016. The original was designed to be used with the PlayStation 4 but the next generation will support the new PlayStation 5 console and be equipped with an OLED display sporting a resolution of 2000 x 2040 pixels per eye, with frame rates up to 120 Hz. The PlayStation VR2 will connect directly to the PS5 using a USB-C cable. There is no launch date or price for PS VR2 yet.
