CEERS-93316 is no longer the oldest galaxy in the universe - it appeared not 250 million, but 1.2 billion years after the Big Bang
Scientists have carried out a spectral analysis of the redshift of two galaxies. We have already written about Meisies. Now let's talk about CEERS-93316.
Here's What We Know
To begin with, the spectral analysis has established that Meisies was formed not in 286 million, but in 390 million years after the Big Bang. But CEERS-93316 was even younger, although before it was considered the oldest galaxy relative to our planet.
CEERS-93316 was discovered with the James Webb Space Observatory last summer. Initially, the magnitude of redshift (the lag of light during the expansion of the Universe with acceleration) was estimated at z16.4. Spectral analysis determined the redshift to be z4.9.
This means that in fact CEERS-93316 was observed not 250 million years after the Big Bang, but 1.2 billion years later. Taking into account the expansion of the Universe, the galaxy is 25 billion light years away from Earth, not 32 billion.
Thus, the title of the most distant galaxy from us goes to JADES-GS-z13. It is thought to have existed 325 million years after the Big Bang. The galaxy was discovered thanks to the James Webb telescope last autumn.
