Ingenuity arrived on Mars in February 2021 along with the Perseverance rover. The purpose of the project was to assess the capabilities of aerial reconnaissance on the Red Planet. NASA had planned to make only five flights in a few months, but the helicopter has been in operation for two and a half years.

The 55th flight lasted 2 minutes and 23 seconds. During that time, Ingenuity climbed to a height of 10 metres and flew a distance of 264 metres. In a total of 55 flights, the helicopter flew 12.5 kilometres in 98 minutes.
