NASA's unmanned Ingenuity helicopter set a new speed record during its 60th flight over the surface of Mars

This week, the Martian unmanned helicopter drone Ingenuity made its 60th flight over the surface of the Red Planet. According to NASA, the drone was able to set a new speed record.

The anniversary flight took place on 25 September 2023. The drone was able to climb to a height of 16 metres and cover 340 metres. The 60th flight took 132.8 seconds, which is 3.8 seconds less than the previous attempt.

Ingenuity was able to set a new speed record, accelerating to 8 m/s (28.8 km/h). The previous record was 6.5 m/s (23.4 km/h). It was set during the 49th flight over the surface of Mars, which took place on April 2, 2023. Until then, the drone had reached a speed of 5.5 m/s (19.8 km/h) several times.
