SpaceX won't be able to launch a satellite service for smartphones until it proves it won't interfere with carriers

SpaceX intends to launch Direct to Cell service in Starlink service in 2024. It will allow sending files, text and voice messages from smartphones using internet satellites. But the US Federal Communications Commission has a few questions for SpaceX.

Elon Musk's company (Elon Musk) applied to the regulator for permission in 2022. It's learnt that SpaceX won't be able to launch the new service until it proves it won't interfere with other satellite and terrestrial services.

The Federal Communications Commission has several questions that have arisen during its review of the aerospace company's application. They concern Direct to Cell's operation in the 1910 MHz to 1995 MHz band. SpaceX has until 17 November 2023 to answer the questions and provide an analysis of the interference that could be caused by the launch of the new service.

The aerospace company must show typical power levels for satellite communications in the US. Another question concerns how SpaceX will implement the shutdown of Starlink's cellular service in the event of interference.
