Scientists have discovered the most distant nova from its galaxy - the star is located 150,00 light years from the Andromeda Nebula

Astronomers from the UK have managed to discover a nova most distant from its parent galaxy. The star is located more than 100,000 light years away from the Andromeda Nebula.

Here's What We Know

To begin with, we note that a nova is a star whose brightness first increases sharply and then gradually decreases. Usually the brightness drops slowly, but in the case of our object it happened very quickly.

The nova is called AT 2023prq. It was discovered on 15 August this year with the Zwicky Transient Facility. Astronomers were able to determine that the observed object belongs to classical novae.

The star had a peak luminosity of -7.6. In less than four days, the indicator fell by two points. This usually takes several weeks. AT 2023prq was the most distant nova ever discovered. It is 150,000 light years away from the Andromeda Nebula.
