The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has denied SpaceX nearly $1bn in subsidies. The regulator did not change the decision, which was made last year.

Here's What We Know

SpaceX with its project Starlink participated in the programme to provide access to the Internet in remote areas of the United States. The company expected to receive from the state $885.5 million in the form of subsidies, but was refused.

The programme envisages providing Internet access to 642,000 households in 35 states. The US authorities explain the refusal by the failed launch of the Starship rocket system. Officials believe that, in part, the failed Starship test will have a negative impact on SpaceX's ability to fulfil its obligations.

Elon Musk criticised the FCC's decision. The head of SpaceX suggests that the authorities close the programme and return the money to taxpayers. The billionaire believes that competitors Starlink will not be able to cope with this.
