NASA engineers have revealed the cause of the malfunction of the Voyager 1 spacecraft, which was launched into interstellar space more than 46 years ago.

Here's What We Know

The loss of data transmission was caused by memory corruption in the Flight Data Subsystem (FDS). The discovery of the fault caused a serious outcry at NASA, but the team of engineers notes that they are ready to restore Voyager 1's operation.

After studying and analysing the data, it was found that about three per cent of the FDS memory was damaged, which is the main cause of the spacecraft's problems.

Engineers are considering the possibility that the fault could be caused by an energetic particle from space or simply wear and tear due to a long period of operation.

The situation with Voyager 1 is currently tense and requires immediate analysis and intervention. NASA is optimistic about the possibility of restoring the FDS, but the agency warns that this process may take a significant amount of time - weeks or even months.

Successful restoration of the system will allow the spacecraft to continue transmitting scientific and engineering data to Earth.
