SpaceX boosts Starlink satellite internet speeds in the US and Canada for free
SpaceX has delighted some Starlink satellite internet subscribers in Canada and the US. The company has boosted speeds and bandwidth for free.
Here's What We Know
SpaceX has sent out notifications to customers who have signed up for the Best Effort tariff. Previously, they were given second-line access to Starlink and had limits on connection speeds, although they paid at the same rate as regular subscribers.
The speed in the Best Effort tariff is 5-50 Mbps, and the price is $110. However, once the 1TB limit is reached, the speed is limited. By comparison, users on the regular plan get access to satellite internet at 20-100MB/s.
The company has been able to launch almost 500 satellites into orbit since the beginning of 2023, allowing it to increase bandwidth. Recently, Best Effort subscribers in Texas, Virginia, Kentucky, Georgia, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Ontario, Canada, began receiving notices in which SpaceX promises to increase speeds "to normal" without the need for additional charges.
