Russian propagandists have for the first time shown the use of the 2S31 Vena system in the war against Ukraine. It entered service with the airborne troops.

2S31 "Vena" is a self-propelled artillery and howitzer-mortar. The combat vehicle was designed to counter Western armoured vehicles, including German Leopard tanks and American M1 Abrams.
The self-propelled launcher can fire at a range of up to 13,000 metres. The ammunition pack consists of 70 rounds of different types of ammunition. These include high-precision Kitolov-2 projectiles. In addition to the main gun, the combat vehicle is equipped with a machine gun of 7.62 mm calibre.
The power plant is represented by a multi-fuel engine with a capacity of 450 horsepower. It allows the 2S31 "Vena" to reach a speed of 70 km/h. The combat vehicle is also capable of travelling on water at a speed of up to 10 km/h. It has a range of 500 kilometres.
