Denmark has confirmed that 12 out of 20 Leopard 1A5 tanks for Ukraine had technical faults - 10 combat vehicles have already been recalled
Deliveries of German Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine have not started smoothly. More than half of the combat vehicles from the first batches have technical problems.
Here's What We Know
The Armed Forces of Ukraine should receive over a hundred Leopard 1A5 tanks. So far, 20 combat vehicles have arrived in the country. The defence forces have already published photos. However, half have been sent back to fix problems.
The Danish Defence Minister confirmed technical faults in 12 of the first 20 Leopard 1A5 tanks. Ukrainian specialists will be able to fix the problems in two of the 12 combat vehicles by their own efforts, while the rest have gone to the Scandinavian country for repairs.
The need to send the tanks back to Denmark is due to the fact that Ukrainian craftsmen and infrastructure are not yet prepared to repair Leopard 1A5s. Therefore, the work can only be carried out by FFG.
It remains to be hoped that the problem will not be scaled up and dozens of other Leopard 1A5 tanks will not have to be returned.
