US approves $2.53bn sale of M1A2 Abrams tanks in SEPv3 configuration to Romania
Romania is preparing to purchase more than 50 US M1A2 Abrams tanks. The potential sale has been approved by the US State Department.

Romania wants to purchase 54 M1A2 Abrams tanks in SEPv3 configuration. The deal is valued at $2.53bn. In addition to the tanks, it includes M88A2 HERCULES tracked armoured recovery vehicles and additional equipment.
The M1A2 Abrams tanks will help Romania more effectively counter current and future threats. The sale of the combat vehicles will support U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives by strengthening a NATO ally.
The deal will not adversely affect US defence capabilities. The prime contractors will be General Dynamics Land Systems, BAE Systems, Honeywell Aerospace, Leonardo DRS, Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, L3Harris, American Apex Corporation, Allison Transmissions, Pearson Engineering, Amentum, CAE, Palomar, Boeing, Fibrotex and US Ordnance.
