Apple removed dozens of artificial intelligence apps from China's App Store ahead of the restrictions
Apple has removed more than 100 apps with generative artificial intelligence from the Chinese version of the App Store that may violate the country's new restrictions.
Here's What We Know
On 15 August, China's rules on the use of generative AI come into effect. They require developers' products to "adhere to core socialist values" and ban content that questions state power. Otherwise, such apps will be censored and possibly shut down.
In a letter sent to developers of OpenCat's native ChatGPT client, Apple said it was removing the apps due to the presence of content banned in China.
Many of the apps being removed also appear to be based on OpenAI models. Apple says its products are not properly licensed or allowed to operate in the PRC under the new regulations.
Other popular Chinese AI apps reportedly removed from the shop include Spark, ChatGAi Plus and ChatbotAI.
